“Of Paper and Plate”
“Of Paper and Plate” was a Site Seen activation presented as part of the 2026 O+ Festival in Kingston, New York. Set within the Market Basket Delicatessen, an active neighborhood deli, the exhibition brought together 14 contemporary artists working across sculpture, installation, painting, and mixed media, transforming a familiar place of everyday exchange into an unexpected encounter with art, amid regulars, soup, and inquiry.
Rather than displacing the deli's everyday life, the exhibition unfolded within it. Art entered into conversation with the counters, shelves, food, and familiar rituals of the space, blurring the boundaries between commerce, community, and contemporary art. Through an exploration of material, consumption, memory, and transformation, Of Paper and Plate invited visitors to reconsider what an exhibition space can be, and where art belongs.
