Art enters a space already in motion.
For three days this October, Site Seen brings together contemporary artists inside Market Basket Delicatessen, a working deli in the heart of Kingston, as part of O+ Festival Kingston 2026.
Rather than transforming the deli into a gallery, Of Paper and Plate allows the two to coexist. The counter stays open, lunch gets made, customers come and go, and art enters a space already in motion.
The exhibition takes its title from two familiar objects, paper and plate, inviting artists to consider their material, cultural, and associative possibilities while responding to a place never designed for the presentation of art.
What We Are Looking For
We are especially drawn to work that engages:
Paper and plate as material, object, image, or idea
Food, nourishment, consumption, exchange, or ritual
The everyday as a site for artistic intervention
Repetition, labor, service, and routine
Material transformation and unexpected associations
The relationship between artwork and a space already in use
The overlap between art and daily life
Work should be able to coexist with the rhythms of a working delicatessen, where art, food, commerce, and everyday activity occupy the same space.
Participation
Selected artists will be included in a three-day exhibition at Market Basket Delicatessen during O+ Festival Kingston 2026, with documentation and promotion through Site Seen platforms.
Participating artists will be asked to present one work created in response to Of Paper and Plate, along with one additional work from their existing practice. All exhibited work must be available for sale.
Site Seen is an artist-run nonprofit organization. In the event of artwork sales, the organizational commission supports exhibition production, space activation, documentation, and future programming. The remaining proceeds are paid directly to the artist.
Final details regarding installation, artwork delivery and pickup, participation expectations, and agreement terms will be shared with selected artists.
This is a tightly considered exhibition. Each inclusion is intentional.

Show us what you are making for consideration in Of Paper and Plate, a three-day Site Seen exhibition presented in collaboration with O+ during the 2026 O+ Festival at Market Basket Delicatessen, a working deli in Kingston, NY.
We are looking for work that responds to paper and plate broadly, materially, conceptually, culturally, or associatively, and that can coexist with a space already in motion.
Selected artists will be asked to present one work responding to the exhibition theme and one additional work from their existing practice.
Submissions may include up to five images.
A $50 submission contribution supports the curatorial review process and helps fund the production of this exhibition. As an artist-run nonprofit, these contributions directly support space activation, documentation, and future programming.
We review only completed submissions, which include this completed form and the submission review fee.
